New York Rangers fans are already trying to pump the brakes on the idea of hiring Joel Quenneville as a replacement for Peter Laviolette. Should GM Chris Drury take heed?![Joel Quenneville]()
The New York Rangers are without a Head Coach as the Stanley Cup playoffs begin. We soon saw the writing on the wall after a miserable performance from the Rangers team put Laviolette on the hot seat.
While it wasn't advertised, you could tell the situation was getting progressively worse, as Drury would move players in and out, with hopes that play would improve. But now, Laviolette joins Gerard Gallant as they wait for their next job on the NHL coaching carousel.
One of those names whose come out of it is recently reinstated ex-Blackhawks and Panthers Coach Joel Quenneville.
The same coach who won three-cups with the Blackhawks organization, and Stan Bowman behind him.
The Kyle Beach incident led to his resignation in 2021, and he was only fortunate enough to get reinstated during the weekend of the last NHL Draft. Now with his name popping up in discussions, fans remain passionate about who should become the new coach of the blue shirts.
Mike Bartner, a Hockey Content Creator on "X":
New York Rangers fans are going through a whirlwind of emotions as they've witnessed the team fall from grace only a year after being Stanley Cup contenders.
Now, they'll have to contend with the chaos that has been ongoing as GM Chris Drury "retools" the lineup.
A retool that has seen many of the Rangers' core players being shipped out. That includes Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko, and Jacob Trouba.
Quenneville would be able to help turn around the Rangers and put them back on track in winning territory.
However, his reputation has been soiled by the past, and despite being reinstated, he'll have to earn the trust of the fans and the front office wherever he coaches next.
