The New England Patriots could be in the quarterback market this offseason, but not in the way many might think.
Joe Milton ended the season with a bang, showing how much he had grown and developed since being drafted by the Patriots. So, because of that, many have predicted that New England could look to trade the 2024 sixth round pick this offseason.
However, the Boston Herald reports that while many believe the Patriots should do this, it's not generating as much discussion across teams.
"One league source familiar with the Patriots’ roster and locker room dynamics suggested the team ought to trade second-year quarterback Joe Milton because the 24-year-old backup starred in the team’s season finale and sees himself as a starter," the Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed wrote. "However, league buzz around a possible Milton trade has yet to match outside, media-driven speculation."
During the 2025 NFL Combine, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the rumors this week by MassLive. He didn't reveal the Patriots' plans, but he also didn't rule out a trade.
“I think it’s a little early to have that conversation right now as far as trading players,” said Vrabel. “I would say that anything that we could do within reason to strengthen our roster we would have to entertain - outside of I would say of a few players.”
“I’ve talked to Joe. I’ve reached out. We’ve had conversations,” added Vrabel. “I think that’s too soon to tell (an impression)....He took advantage of his opportunity at the end of the season, which is all we can ask of any player, is that they’re able to do that.”
We'll have to wait and see what happens, but there is a possibility that Milton won't be back with New England next season.
