Tom Brady gets his QB: Las Vegas Raiders make stunning trade for Seattle Seahawks star Geno Smith - suong

The Las Vegas Raiders have a new quarterback after completing a trade for Seattle Seahawks star Geno Smith, per multiple reports.

The bombshell trade was announced on Friday evening and will see Smith reunite with his former coach Pete Carroll in the desert, with a 2025 third-round pick going the other way to Seattle.

Brady and the Raiders have been on the hunt for a new long-term QB and had been linked with the likes of Aaron Rodgers, but have now landed on Smith.

One of the team's star men, Maxx Crosby, instantly took to social media to give his thoughts, simply posting: 'LFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!' with a series of Raiders emojis.

The 34-year-old Smith held contract talks with Seattle over a new deal but could not come to any agreement, and heads to Vegas with one year left on his current contract.

Per Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are now expected to look closely at Sam Darnold as they reset in the quarterback position.

NFL insider Albert Breer reported that the Seahawks were hoping to re-sign Smith on a deal in the region of $35m per year, while Smith's camp were pushing for a figure nearer $45m.

Smith was selected by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, spending two years as an inconsistent starter.

He bounced around the league with the Giants and Chargers before finding a new lease of life in Seattle after being traded there in 2019.

He took over from Russell Wilson as starter in 2022 and posted career-best stats, throwing for 4,282 yards and a 30-11 TD-INT ratio.

The Seahawks also found their way into an unexpected playoff spot, further boosting Smith's stock and earning him a bumper three-year, $75million contract.

Seattle then fell short of the postseason in the next two seasons, but Smith remains a highly-coveted quarterback and will now play under his former Seattle coach in Vegas.

Before trading for Smith, the Raiders were heading into the new season with Aidan O'Connell as QB1, and the arrival of a proven talent under center now gives them more freedom in April's draft.

It is being reported that the arrival of Smith does not rule out the possibility of the Raiders drafting another quarterback, but it is now less of a pressing issue.
