New York Rangers superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin gets pulled during the first period of the Rangers first game back from the 4 Nations Face-Off break, a very similar situation as to when the Rangers returned from the holiday break back on Dec. 28th.
The New York Rangers are currently facing off against the Buffalo Sabres, and are having a very difficult time as they trail 5-0 with heading into the second period.
Ultimately leaving Peter Laviolette no choice but to pull Shesterkin from the net as he gave up five goals on 16 shots in the first 18:21 minutes of the game and replace him with Jonathan Quick.
#Sabres score 5 goals on #NYR 's Shesterkin on 16 shots in the opening 18:21 of the game. 5-0, Quick coming in
Make that FIVE goals for the Sabres in the first period 🫢
Definitely a rough season for Igor Shesterkin as this marks his third time being pulled from the net just this year, as he was pulled during the Rangers game back on Nov. 7th which marked his first time time since October 19th of 2023.
Rangers Igor Shesterkin is pulled from a game for the first time since October 19, 2023
Coming into tonight's game, Igor Shesterkin is a 18-19-2 throughout 39 starts this season and currently post a 2.87 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Clearly not his best stats but still a goaltender who is strongly proving he's worth his new contract extension.
Hopefully the New York Rangers can quickly change things around and bounce back during the second and third period.
