JT Thomas revealed what wasn’t shown about his controversial cane gifts to Patricia Altschul and other castmates on Southern Charm. He also shared a bloody photo from his accident in Costa Rica after his co-stars shaded his injury in the season premiere. JT declared he’s “thankful to be alive.”
In the premiere, JT used a cane to help him walk, and he explained he was injured in an ATV crash while vacationing in Central America. Later on, he gifted canes to several castmates, including 83-year-old Patricia, who took it as a personal offense and walked away. According to a preview for a future scene, Craig Conover claimed JT called Patricia a “b**ch” over her reaction to the gift, though JT later denied it.
In a December 8 Instagram post, JT shared a bloody hospital pic of his arm after the ATV accident in Costa Rica. He also uploaded photos of his bruised thigh.
“2 weeks before filming Season 10 of Southern Charm I caught a dirt drift coming down a mountainside road in Costa Rica, the ATV then rolled down the road and pinned my leg,” he wrote in the caption. “Thankfully it wasnt my head or neck. Luckily I was able to ice the double Hematomas (vascular and muscular) and get the inflammation down and be able to make it to the horse race. I’ve spent this entire year in physical therapy trying to restore my leg damage, and torn rotator cuff. Watching episode 1.. was not easy.”
He then explained the cane gifts.
“The canes weren’t my idea,” he said. “Another cast member went into the gas station and got canes for those on the bus but I wanted to make sure there couldn’t be drama by not having canes for the rest of the squad already at the Carolina Cup.. so I hobbled my ass back into the gas station and made sure everyone would have a cane.. just in case.”
“Thankful to be alive,” he added. “I know it’s all in good fun but e1 was hard for me to watch.”

Before the season began, JT revealed on social media that he was resigning from the show. That news was strange to many fans given that most Bravolebs don’t formally quit until after the season is over.
