Igor Shesterkin Makes Bold Statement About Jonathan Quick

USATSI_22761695Igor Shesterkin is the heart and soul of the New York Rangers, but he also might be the most humble.

When asked about his All-Star selection in 2024, Shesterkin answered the question in a way that may surprise a lot of people.

“I was actually so skeptical about this because I understood that I don’t deserve to be there … Well, in my understanding, it should’ve been Quick,” Shesterkin said. “It was psychologically hard for me that I didn’t deserve it and so on, the percentage of saved shots when I was an All-Star was 89 percent.”

Shesterkin’s incredible playoff performance outshines the play of Jonathan Quick throughout the regular season.

When Shesterkin wasn’t at the top of his game early on in the season, it was Quick who delivered in a big way and helped ease some of the pressure off of the superstar goalie.

Quick started 26 games for the Rangers last season, recording a 18-6-2 record, 2.62 goals against average and .911 save percentage.

Meanwhile, Shesterkin started 55 games, tallying a 36-17-2 record, 2.58 goals against average and .913 save percentage.

The Rangers signed Quick to a one-year contract extension in March, which shows how much the team appreciated his contributions.

In today’s NHL, it’s imperative to have two capable goaltenders and the Rangers have just that as Shesterkin and Quick are one of the best goalie tandems the league has to offer.
