seem to figure out a way to stay out of the news for all the wrong reasons.
This week's controversial statement came from recently released Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay. On his podcast immediately after the announcement of the team's release, Slay made it clear that he felt veteran safety Reed Blankenship will take over as the top dog of the Eagles secondary. He also made it clear that he felt he was needed on the Eagles due to his veteran leadership.
There's just one problem with that.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson made it clear that Slay wasn't just wrong but disrespectful.
"Vet presence is always needed don’t get me wrong!" Gardner-Johnson said in several tweets. "But bro what “Vet” is needed when young guys can hold their own (Q& Coop) and you got a crazy duo with Reed and Me?! And the supporting cast (Ringo, Zay, Andre Sam, Eli, Sydney, Tristin) stay with the youth u ask me!!"
For his part, Slay tried to cool the air saying his comments about Blankenship and Gardner-Johnson didn't mean anything more than him giving credit to a particular player on the roster.
"We just won a Super Bowl together," Slay tweeted. "I do not have no problem or hate towards bra. Reed is in our leadership council which is y I said what I said. I would expect him to be the next guy up. It’s nothing but love on my end if u really kno me.. Yall have a blessed day."
Not to be outdone, A.J. Brown chimed in with the remarks saying "Eagles community is messy bruh."
So to summarize this embarrassing business …
Slay is out and wants to return to the Eagles and thinks they need him for his veteran leadership, Gardner-Johnson is upset because he feels he brings that necessary leadership over, and Brown is sitting on the sidelines blaming everyone else for worrying too much over this.
