A rift has begun to form within the New York Rangers between defenseman Adam Fox and head coach Peter Laviolette just a few days before he was officially fired.![Peter Laviolette]()
During a postgame media scrum, Fox spoke about how the outcome of the games as of late have been the same with confusion and lack of execution which has caused the Rangers to lose several games over the past couple of weeks.
Rangers fell apart in third period after acquiring the lead
The third period in this game was a microcosm of what's gone wrong with the Rangers over the past year. The Rangers have lacked a strong power play which went 0 for three on the man advantage against the Flyers.
It did appear that the defensive pairings and the play in the round end was confusing and disorganized which the Flyers pounced on considering how poorly they have played over the course of the year.
Fox has seen a sharp decline in his numbers compared to last season has he played 72 games and had 73 points and was a + 21. This season, he has played 74 games thus far, scoring ten goals with 51 assists for 61 points and is a + 9.
Major changes on the way for the Rangers this summer
With the playoffs out of reach, it's widely expected that the Rangers will be quite busy in the offseason making major changes to the organization which we have already started to see with the firing of Peter Laviolette and potentially general manager Chris Drury.
Considering the Rangers were a Presidents trophy winner last year and have fallen out of the playoffs certainly with dictate someone will lose their job.
Drury tried to make changes during the season which seemed to have poisoned the dressing room and caused major trouble in November and December which led to their downfall this year.
Something that could lead to his firing if he doesn't make the right moves this offseason.
