Eagles Rumor Predicts Josh Sweat Leaves To Sign With Former Coach - suong

The Philadelphia Eagles have plenty of top players available on the open market this offseason. One of those top players happens to be seven-year veteran Josh Sweat.

Originally picked in the fourth round of the 2018 Draft, Sweat grew into one of the more complete and dependable edge rushers in the league. Over the years in Philadelphia, Sweat has recorded 43 sacks including a team-high eight this past year for the Super Bowl champs

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Josh Sweat (19) against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field.

After a couple offseasons of an unsure future, though, Sweat is expected to make a splash on the open market.

And one reporter believes he knows exactly where that market is.

NJ.com’s Scott Engel predicted that he will end up leaving the Eagles to sign with the Arizona Cardinals and former defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

"Eagles DE Josh Sweat," Engel said. "Top Prediction: Arizona Cardinals. Confidence level in betting terms: 1 Unit. Philadelphia will likely make a strong bid to keep Sweat. Standout Super Bowl winners, however, often score considerable deals in free agency, and Arizona will be looking to improve its pass pressure for sure. New England also has the money to spend and the need."

The bond is no rumor; Sweat and Gannon had a strong relationship when the latter was in Philadelphia. The Florida State product put forth his best career in 2022 with 11 sacks and a pick-six from 42 yards out.

His best performance, though, came on Super Bowl Sunday this past February.

Sweat totaled 2.5 sacks while continuing to wreck havoc on the Kansas City Chiefs en route to an Eagles 40-22 victory. The dominant performance all but confirmed Sweat's large market.

And an eventual end to his time in Philly.
