Detroit Lions Sign Jadeveon Clowney

The Carolina Panthers just released Jadaveon Clowney freeing up, and this was practically a foregone conclusion after they drafted Nic Scourton and Princely Umanielen.

Looking at Clowney, he may be 32 years old and have played for 6 teams in the past 7 seasons, but he is still the 2nd best free agent pass rusher available outside of Von Miller.

Here’s why Clowney would be a perfect fit for the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions edge rushers were one of the biggest weaknesses of the 2025 season, and with Aidan Hutchinson still returning from his injury, they could use depth.

They currently are going to have to rely on Josh Paschal and Marcus Davenport on the opposite side, and this isn’t a recipe for success.

In 14 games he had 5.5 sacks and four pass deflections for Carolina last season. His last contract was a two-year $20 million deal, and he wasn’t cut just because he was terrible.

He’s established himself as one of the best run defenders in the entire NFL, while having a very mixed bag of results as a pass rusher.

While he may not be the pass rushing specialist the Lions need, he would add to arguably the best run defending defensive line in the NFL.

Tyleik Williams was one of the best picks in the entire draft, not for the flash, but the fact that he will be an ELITE two-down lineman to start, and just builds the pedigree of hard nose-NFC North football.

They added Tate Ratledge who steps in and is a penciled in starter for the next four seasons minimum at offensive guard. Isaac Teslaa is one of the most underrated receivers as he’s an Uber-athletic, big slot at six-foot-three. One sleeper pick for them as well was Ahmed Hassanein who is one of the strongest prospects on the defensive line, and could develop while Clowney thrives this season.

Los Angeles Chargers

Chicago Bears

The Washington Commanders would be the next pick besides Detroit because they’re in contention mode and have a serious need at defensive end. Clowney would simply raise the floor of the Commanders defensive line.
