It wasn't unexpected for some, as the Browns' 2024 season ended in disappointment after a rash of injuries and poor play at key positions derailed the campaign.

Garrett mentioned as the season ended that he'd like to see the Browns' plan for success in 2025, and he apparently didn't like what he saw.

The 29-year-old said on The Rich Eisen Show that he thought for a while a change of scenery might be good for him. And the defending Defensive Player of the Year could be right.

Garrett confirmed that he "relaxed and decompressed emotionally" before making the trade request public. He also knows he doesn't have much say in where he goes, but wanted to make one thing clear:

“I just want to go to a contender,” Garrett said.

Cleveland has gone public with their refusal to trade the former Texas A&M Aggies standout, and Garrett hasn't commented on what he'll do if they don't.

Garrett is coming off an incredible season where he rattled off his seventh straight season with double-digit sacks and won AP Defensive Player of the Year. He posted 47 takes with 40 solo and 22 for loss, leading the league in that category.

He added 14 sacks and three fumble recoveries. He's a six-time Pro Bowler after making his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance this season, and a four-time First-Team All-Pro and two-time Second-Team All-Pro.

Garrett has also seen 14 staring quarterbacks in Cleveland since he arrived in 2017. All that's missing on his resume is a Super Bowl championship.

Most feel that the Browns could get a draft capital haul in exchange for Garrett that could include two first-round picks or more. That could lend to a quick rebuild for a team that desperately needs one.

But it could get ugly before it gets better in Cleveland for Garrett. If he has a future in Cleveland at all.
