Cowboys' DeMarcus Lawrence Signing with Bitter NFC East Rival Predicted

DeMarcus Lawrence confident Cowboys can “function” while shorthanded due to COVID-19 protocols - Blogging The BoysFRISCO - The Washington Commanders have quickly built a competitive roster under the management of new head coach Dan Quinn in part by poaching talent from his old stomping grounds here at The Star.

And now comes a rumor that he might do it again by stealing DeMarcus Lawrence away from the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys seem unlikely to pay up for 11-year veteran, who is a free agent coming off a deal that paid him $20 million per year.

We don't know what his next price tag might be.

We do know there is one in his mind, as agent David Canter has explained to us that the Cowboys know there "is a number that gets it done.''

And we also know that Tank wants to stay in DFW, where he and his family have made their home since was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

But ...

“I’m going to have other options,'' Lawrence said, "but I’d like to stay here. It would be a glorious thing.”

Quinn is now leading the Commanders ... and the Commanders suddenly look like they have a better roster, and therefore a better shot at that elusive Super Bowl, than the Cowboys have.

A foot injury limited him to just four games in 2024, and he will turn 33 years old at the end of April.

Both the Commanders and the Cowboys need to upgrade their pass rush production, and Lawrence unselfishly plays the run as well. ... and there are those connected to the Commanders program who, we are told, can envision a switch here.

It would be an emotionally tough double-whammy for the Cowboys to decide to part ways here with D-Law ... and for the Commanders to swoop in and steal him.
