Vanderpump Rules announced it will debut a brand new cast for season 12, saying goodbye longtime cast members such as Ariana Madix, Tom Sandoval, Scheana Shay and Katie Maloney.
These were the best days of their lives…
But for the remaining original cast members of Vanderpump Rules—including Scheana Shay, Katie Maloney and Tom Sandoval—their time on the Bravo series has come to an end.
According to a Nov. 26 press release from the network, season 12 of the series featuring Lisa Vanderpump and the drama that unfolds among the staff at her Los Angeles restaurants SUR and TomTom will feature a “new group of close-knit SUR-vers who are as complicatedly involved with one another as their iconic predecessors.”
And while the release confirmed Lisa will still appear in the series, it sounds like those still remaining from season one—plus Ariana Madix, Tom Schwartz, Lala Kent, James Kennedy and Brock Davies, who likewise became mainstays on the series over the years—have served their last closing shift.
Bravo promised, however, to pay the remaining cast members their due with a “retrospective special” that will look back on the “past decade of heartbreaks, friendship rifts and scandals” that emerged over the past 11 seasons.
The release noted that production will begin next year, with the premiere date and official cast announcement to come at a later date.
Executive producer Alex Baskin said of the update, “What a thrill it is to build on the legacy of this series by doing it all over again. With profound appreciation for the original group and their iconic run, we can’t wait for the audience to see a dynamic new group of co-workers and friends make their way through life together."
Lisa, too, weighed in on the changeup.
“The last 12 years of filming have been an extraordinary run full of laughter, tears and everything in between,” she said in a statement. “I can’t thank enough those who have shared their lives. How I love you all. In the restaurant business, one shift always gives way to another. Cheers to the next generation of Vanderpump Rules.”
The news comes amid what has been a tumultuous time for the beloved reality series after Sandoval’s affair with Rachel Leviss—who was previously engaged to James—came to light, ending his decade plus relationship with Ariana.
And while the cast tried to set aside their differences to film together, tensions repeatedly came to a head during season 11 of the show, ending in a finale that felt like a farewell to Vanderpump Rules.
But while VPR as fans know it is coming to an end, that doesn’t necessarily mean its beloved cast members will forever be gone from screens.
After all, VPR alum such as exes Jax Taylor, Brittany Cartwright and Kristen Doute—who just announced her pregnancy—have since found a new home on Bravo’s The Valley. Original cast member Stassi Schroeder, too, is set to return to reality TV on season two of Vanderpump Villa.
While the remaining VPR cast have yet to comment publicly on the news at the time of publishing, Ariana, for one, has previously commented on the uncertain future of the series as well as her continued strained relationship with certain cast members.
When asked by E! News’ Will Marfuggi in September if Vanderpump would be coming back for a twelfth season, the Love Island USA host replied simply, “I don't know."
And on whether her fellow cast mates would be ready to say goodbye to the series, Ariana—who found success in various endeavors following the fallout of her relationship—admitted, “I don't talk to any of them. So you'd have to ask them."
