The 2025 NFL free agency period has wound down, and for receiver-needy teams, things didn’t go too well. Tee Higgins and Chris Godwin were the big target receivers, but with both reaching agreements with their current teams, they never hit the open market.

The NFL Draft is right around the corner, but there are only a handful of receivers who seem to have the ability to be a WR1 at the next level. Not every team will have the opportunity to land the likes of Travis Hunter and Tetairoa McMillan.

For teams who are unable to land a high-end wide receiver prospect, making a trade is the other path to beefing up the receiving corps.

Pittsburgh Steelers to Trade George Pickens to Dallas Cowboys

One of those receivers who could be on the move is George Pickens. In terms of potential suitors, one of the teams that desperately needs to continue adding to the wide receiver room is the Dallas Cowboys.

George Pickens’ Issues on the Steelers

Over the years, it’s become clear that Pickens’ tantrums, immaturity, and lack of accountability hold him back from being able to put everything together.

Outside of the questions regarding his commitment and mentality, there are real questions about his ceiling as a talent. He’s had flashes, but he’s not turned into a true WR1 who can carry a passing attack, clearing 1,000 yards just once.

With Pickens needing a new contract in the near future, the Steelers need to make a choice, and that decision should be to trade him.

Dallas Cowboys Trade Scenario for George Pickens

On the outside looking in, Dallas doesn’t seem like a more attractive situation than Pittsburgh, but in Dallas, the quarterback situation is better.

With Dallas being in the NFC East, a division that seems to always be up for grabs, Dallas has the talent to turn things around quickly from their 7-10 record in 2024. It will just take putting everything together under their new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

There’s no denying that Dallas needs an extra wide receiver. While they have a quarterback in Dak Prescott, he is coming off a season-ending injury and needs more wide receiver help to throw to other than CeeDee Lamb. This creates the ideal scenario where Pickens will go to a spot where he will receive an abundance of targets, but won’t be the primary focus of opposing defenses as Lamb will attract their attention.

When it comes to the Steelers, they get the draft capital needed to address bigger roster holes on their team and have a culture reset at the wide receiver position.

George Pickens Stats

Pickens was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft, and since then, has gone on to accumulate 2,978 yards and 13 touchdowns and has an ADOT of 14.2 yards.

Pickens has the talent to separate and be a threat downfield, the issue is that Pickens has shown discontentment when not getting the ball.
