Kreider Has been linked to several trade rumors over the past year after it became known that general manager Chris Drury wanted to trade him along with Jacob Trouba.
Trade would see Rangers acquire young star forward
The proposed trade would see Kreider head west to the Utah hockey club in exchange for forward Barrett Hayton.
New York would acquire Hayton, who's 24 and has one year left on his two-year, $5.3 million deal. The former first-round pick would be a middle-six forward for the Rangers and also add some youth to the roster. With Utah last season, he recorded 20 goals and 26 assists for 46 points in 82 games.
Hayton would give the team more depth as the Rangers are looking to move forward and turn the page on their previous edition.
Drury has made it clear over the past couple of months that he wants to make the team different and be far more competitive it's as this year had shown lots of instability and inconsistencies.
Kreider would give Utah a veteran presence as this young team is trying to establish itself as a competitive hockey team in the state of Utah after spending many years in Arizona and was considered the laughingstock of the NHL.
Kreider could use a change of scenery despite wanting to remain a Ranger
In return, the Rangers would trade Kreider, who has been an important part of their core group. Kreider has two years left on his seven-year, $45.5 million deal. Kreider had a down year last season as he recorded 22 goals and just 8 assists for 30 points in 68 games.
The Utah hockey club have many young promising players and many draft picks still to be chosen which could give Kreider a reason to allow the trade and head west.
Many in the NHL feel the Rangers need to move off of his contract and shake up the lineup which will likely occur have the Rangers now have a new bench boss in Mike Sullivan who may tell Drury what kind of team he needs in order to compete for a Stanley Cup.
