J.C. Escarra will never forget MLB Opening Day 2025.
The Yankees’ backup catcher — who made his debut in the majors after working jobs as an Uber driver and a substitute teacher — and his wife Jocelyn Escarra kissed on the field at Yankees Stadium Thursday before the team’s 4-2 victory over the Brewers, as seen in a video posted to her TikTok.
“First major league hit coming up next,” wrote Jocelyn, who’s pregnant with their first child.
Jocelyn is a school teacher and owns a jewelry brand that’s based in Miami.
“POV: Your husband makes the Yankees opening day roster,” she added.

Jocelyn included a snapshot of her wearing a Yankees sweatshirt and a clear stadium bag with Escarra’s name on it.
Another video showed Escarra’s introduction before the game and was captioned, “Thank you Jesus.”

The high school sweethearts — they’ve been together since at least age 17 — announced last December they’re expecting a boy.
It came two years after they tied the knot in December 2022. Escarra proposed in November 2021.
Escarra’s story has captured the public’s attention and even more so after a video that went viral last weekend captured him telling his mother on a phone call he made the Yankees’ roster — and her crying with joy.
Escarra also choked up with tears.
Things came full circle as he took an Uber to the Bronx on Thursday.
Escarra secured a Minor League contract with the Yankees in Jan. 2024.
He finished last season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and posted a .302/.403/.527 slash line in 52 games.
The Orioles selected Escarra in the 15th round, with the 458th overall selection of the 2017 MLB Draft — and he made his pro debut as a first baseman with the rookie level Gulf Coast League Orioles, hitting .224 in 58 games.
Escarra had stints in independent ball, Puerto Rico and Mexico after being released by the Orioles as a first baseman in April 2022.
He took on other jobs, including Uber and teaching, to support his family.
Along the way, he earned the nickname the “Hialeah Cannon” for his strong throwing arm, according to MLB.com.
Escarra returned to catching after playing the position in college.
