Will Kate Chastain Get More Pets Now That She Has a New Home?

2025 has been a banner year for Kate Chastain. And we’re only a month in.

On January 20, the former Below Deck chief stew announced she was no longer living in her Fort Lauderdale bungalow, as she had purchased her “dream home” closer to her family in Florida.

She told The Daily Dish the move came with several big perks for her and her 1-year-old son, Sullivan Cay, like having “built-in babysitters” who were just a drive away. But even with the additional home space and extra childcare help, Kate insisted she still had a lot on her plate, which is why she had no plans to welcome new pets.

Kate Chastain shares her backyard plans: "I'm getting fish"
“I think the dog (Havanese named Halo) and the baby and myself, I think I got enough living things to take care of for the moment,” she said before immediately backtracking. “Oh, actually, I take that back. I’m getting fish because there’s a fountain in my backyard that used to have koi fish in it.”

Kate said she only agreed to get the fish because her bestie’s 13-year-old son “volunteered to be the keeper of the koi pond.”

“So not my problem,” she joked.

But what happened to Kate’s finches Celine and Rene? Well, they weren’t included in the home move.

“Sadly they stayed down in Fort Lauderdale,” Kate revealed. “My neighbor loved them and, honestly, their chirps weren’t as pleasant as I had hoped. I was like wow, they are really singing a lot.”

The former yachtie introduced Celine and Rene in mid-October 2024 when she posted videos of the birds hanging out in their cage.

“At this point, what difference is [two] more things to keep alive going to make,” she wrote. “Welcome to the family Celine and Rene.”

Kate teased the family additions several months earlier, telling The Daily Dish she wanted the birds for her toddler son.

“We are this week going to get some pet finches, which I think will be very exciting for him to see them chirping and hopping around,” Kate said at the time, before joking about her baby-proofing attempts. “So out with the dangerous coffee tables [and] in with the pets. Let’s just take care of more living things. Why not? You know, anything that’s entertaining for him buys me some free time.”
