VPR’s Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney suffer setbacks at sandwich shop opening day after late start & ‘broken’ POS system

VANDERPUMP Rules' ARIANA Madix and Katie Maloney celebrated the grand opening of Something About Her on Wednesday.

Hundreds of people showed up to the much-anticipated opening after over a year-long delay and permit issues.

According to an eyewitness, one of the first few people to enter the Los Angeles sandwich shop "waited hours" and traveled from another state or another city just to be there for the special day.

"Fans were really excited to finally step inside and experience what has been teased for a long time now," the eyewitness revealed.

"The line was wrapped around the corner and the wait to get in was over two hours."

One fan, however, told The U.S. Sun that the grand opening "felt very anticlimactic" and not at all like an opening since there were "no balloons, signs or decorations" or "anyone standing out front to signify it's a store opening."

"People, although very excited, were also disappointed in some opening setbacks," an eyewitness remarked.

The disappointment didn't just come from the lack of décor, but also there were "issues after issues," per the insider.

"The store opened 30 minutes late, leaving everyone waiting outside frustrated," they spilled. "And on top of that, the store’s POS system wasn't working at the time, so everything was very chaotic and unorganized."

The owners Ariana, 38, and Katie, 37, who were there to greet the customers "seemed very stressed," per the insider.

In a video obtained by The U.S. Sun, the pals opened the doors at 10:30 am and informed fans of the unfortunate news.

"So our POS (point of sale) system has decided that today is the day that it wants to not work. We are going to be going really slowly to make sure that everything comes out properly and on time, that our kitchen is actually getting the orders and that you guys are able to order and pay for things," Ariana said.

"So please bear with us. We're going to be moving slowly but we're very excited to have you. We're going to start letting people in I think one or two people at a time."

Despite the long wait time, the TV personalities took lots of photos and selfies with fans as they greeted them as they walked through the doors.

Even though many Bravo stars attended the soft openings that were held prior, other familiar faces were at the shop on Wednesday, including Katie's mom, Teri, and Ann Maddox, Tom Sandoval's former assistant.

Ann was hired to help run the shop, as seen on Vanderpump Rules, after she quit working for Tom and started working for Ariana.

'NOT ENOUGH ROOM'
The 740-square-foot property, which was designed by Jon Hutman, was only able to fit one group at a time as everyone else waited outside.

The store’s POS system wasn't working at the time, so everything was very chaotic and unorganized.

An insider told The U.S. Sun
"A lot of people complained about the lack of seating and there not being enough room.

"One fan even called it 'inconsiderate' for not having tables or extra seating space for the opening day," an insider told The U.S. Sun.

On top of that, the neighboring businesses, including OakBerry, were "frustrated" by fans blocking their own business and the lack of organization overall.

As of last week, the final touches have been added to the Parisian-style eatery just days before opening after getting final permits through the City of West Hollywood.

Not only was the Something About Her sign added to the exterior, but the yellow and white awning was also hung up after having to be taken down last summer due to a permit issue.

There is still no outdoor seating on the front patio. The city just approved the permit at the end of April.

A source told The U.S. Sun that the girls "plan on expanding their outdoor dining area to the side courtyard area hopefully by the end of summer."

SANDWICHES FOR SALE
As teased on VPR, fans are finally able to try the variety of sandwiches that the cast got to taste on the show that were curated by the restaurant's former chef, Penny Davidi.

According to a menu obtained by The U.S. Sun, the sandwiches cost between $14 to $18.

These include The Diane (Sicilian style tuna salad on artisan baguette), The Reese (chef's chicken salad on seven grain bread), The Nancy (BLT on toasted sourdough), and The Meg (Greek salad on traditional lavash) among other sandwiches.

In addition, there is a selection of baked goods and sweet treats, chips, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The owners included a letter to their "beloved patrons," who patiently waited for the grand opening, on the menu.

"We wanted this space to be more than a sandwich shop; we wanted it to be a sanctuary - a place where every corner exuded inspiration and every bite spoke of possibility," they wrote.

"Each recipe, each ingredient - a labor of love. We wanted our sandwiches to evoke nostalgia, to spark joy with every bite.

"We look forward to many more lunches filled with laughter, inspiration, and perhaps a touch of delightful delusion about the magic of life."
