It would be a blockbuster trade that which shake the Eastern Conference as key names from both teams would be heading back.
Panarin would be moved for two young stars in blockbuster deal
If this deal were to transpire the Rangers would acquire 23-year-old right winger Jack Quinn, 23 year old right winger JJ Peterka and buffalo's 2025 first round draft pick.
In exchange, the Rangers would send Rangers superstar Artemi Panarin well holding $5 million of his money, Arthur Kaliyev and a 2025 fifth round pick which belongs to the Minnesota Wild.
It's key to note that both Quinn and Peterka are restricted free agents on July 1st which means the Rangers would need to sign them to new deals.
Panera would be entering his final year of his deal where he signed a seven year contract with the Rangers worth $81.5 million. Retaining $5 million of his cap yet with certainly be enticing for the Sabres.
Trade would be a tough sell to Panarin
Despite this being a blockbuster trade proposal, there's a strong possibility that this deal would not occur since Panarin has a no movement clause which will stretch into next year.
Panarin has enjoyed his time with the Rangers and it's safe to say that he would likely find it harder to head to an organization which has not been in the playoffs for almost two decades and showing no signs of improvement as Panarin is on the other side of 30 years old.
It's safe to say that the Rangers will look at moving players out of their roster especially if the team cannot make the playoffs this year after being the President's trophy winner last year.
Reporter Peter Baugh explained where the Rangers stand and who would likely be on their way out of the organization.
«If the Rangers are going to make substantial changes to their roster, they will need to move players out,» Baugh added. «Chris Kreider is the most obvious candidate, given that Chris Drury already showed a willingness to entertain offers in November, when he sent a message to the other 31 general managers saying he'd listen on Kreider and then-captain Jacob Trouba. Moving Kreider's $6.5 million cap hit might not be easy given his trade protection and the disappointing season he's had.»
In the meantime, the Rangers will continue to push forward an attempt to make up ground as they are one point out of a playoff spot.
