Trade rumors have swirled around Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert for much of the offseason. That hasn’t changed with the NFL preseason beginning for the defending Super Bowl champions.
This week, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named Goedert the one player the Eagles “should put on the 2025 trade block” this month.
“Tight end Dallas Goedert played a fairly sizeable role during Philadelphia’s run to Super Bowl LIV. While he missed time during the regular season, he recorded 215 yards and a touchdown during the playoffs,” wrote Knox on Wednesday.
“Still, the Eagles pondered the idea of trading the 30-year-old early in the offseason. They received offers during the draft before the tight end agreed to a contract restructure, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer (h/t NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo).
“Philly should circle back and see what sort of offers it can get before the start of the regular season.”
Goedert has spent all seven of his NFL seasons with the Eagles. In 93 games, he’s posted 349 catches for 4,085 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns.
In 2024, Goedert had 42 catches, 496 receiving yards and two scores during the regular season. The tight end then had 17 receptions, 215 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs.
Could the Philadelphia Eagles Still Trade TE Dallas Goedert?
Knox named one trade candidate for every team by default this week. It makes some sense that he picked Goedert for the Eagles because the tight end was involved in trade discussions this offseason.
But as Knox mentioned, Goedert and the Eagles agreed to a restructured contract. The tight end elected that over getting traded.
“The #Eagles and TE Dallas Goedert have agreed to a reworked deal for this season, as Jeff McLane stated,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo tweeted. “The team had trade offers for Goedert during the draft. He was in the loop.
“Decided to remain with the team and selflessly restructured to try running it back.”
It would be a pretty cruel for the Eagles to turn around and trade Goedert now.
The tight end agreed to a deal that will pay him $10 million for 2025. He will become a free agent at the end of the season.
In all likelihood, this will be Goedert’s final year with the Eagles. Retirement may be a possibility for the tight end after the season. He will turn 31 in January.
If Goedert decides to continue playing, he may have to experience a terrific 2025 for the Eagles to want him to return.
Eagles TE Room Entering 2025 NFL Season
Goedert became the subject of trade rumors this offseason because of the emergence of fellow tight end Grant Calcaterra. With Goedert sitting out seven regular season games in 2024, Calcaterra posted 24 catches, 298 receiving yards and one touchdown, all of which were career bests.
But with Goedert re-signing, the Eagles appear set to enter the 2025 season with Goedert and Calcaterra as their top two tight ends.
Philadelphia also has five other tight ends on its offseason roster — Harrison Bryant, Kylen Granson, E.J. Jenkins, Cameron Latu, and Nick Muse.
That depth is another reason to argue Goedert could be a trade candidate. The Eagles have plenty of tight ends on the roster.
But Goedert, even injured last season, produced the best statistics at tight end for Philadelphia. He was then an important cog of the offense in the playoffs.
With the Eagles bidding for a repeat and his contract settle, Goedert appears to be one of the more unlikely trade candidates on Knox’s list.
