Surprise Engagement: Southern Charm's Olivia Flowers Says 'Yes' to Fiancé Alex Williams After NYC Proposal - lulu

Olivia Flowers is engaged to Alex Williams after a little over one year of dating - and said 'yes' following a 'surprise' proposal in NYC last month in September.

The Southern Charm star, 32 - who confirmed she was fired ahead of the Bravo show's 10th season - began dating Williams last year in May after first crossing paths at a wedding in Texas

According to People, Alex popped the big question late last month on September 25 at the Meadow Terrace Suite at JW Marriot Essex House - and was also aided by both Olivia's parents.

Planning for the proposal began early last month shortly before the TV personality whisked herself away to the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week

Williams - who resides in Dallas with Olivia - then secretly flew to South Carolina to get permission from her mother and father to propose.

Alex told People, 'Olivia has such an incredible group of friends, from elementary school through to college, and she's very close with her parents, so I knew involving them somehow would mean a lot to her.'

'I wanted her to feel all the love and the excitement in the world from the surprise of her loved ones.'

He explained that, 'Her mom Robin had the idea to propose while the four of us would be in New York together, for the Project Lyme Gala Olivia was speaking at.'

However, plans had to be altered last minute due to a United Nations meeting taking place at the hotel when Williams wanted to propose.

Alex said the hotel staff, as well as 'our friends and family were so accommodating and moved well as the plan evolved.'

He told Olivia, 'we had a work event to go to at one point and then I changed this to a luncheon, then I got her brand manager involved and made her thing it was a photoshoot for the hotel.'

Despite plans becoming 'a little hectic,' he explained that 'Olivia was incredibly busy with her Project Lyme speech, so she didn't catch on to anything at all.'

On September 25 in the afternoon, both Alex and Flowers made their way to a room at the hotel where a photographer was waiting to film content for social media.

Olivia told People of the big day, 'He is my biggest hype man when it comes to helping me with content so this didn't seem weird to me, just like a sweet gesture...'

'He actually got my social media manager involved so I thought this was a brand deal, so I was in work mode.'

While configuring the best shots with her phone, she recalled Alex suddenly, 'grabbing a box out of his sports coat and dropping a knee...then I drop my phone.'

'Alex said, "Olivia Barbara Ellen Flowers. You're the girl of my dreams. Became the love of my life. And I'd like to ask will you marry me?"'

Flowers humorously told the outlet, 'Looking back now it's concerning just how many things I didn't pick up on, but it made for a good surprise. Or several surprises, I should say.'

Her friends and family were also at the hotel and soon 'piled' into the room to help celebrate the moment after the TV personality said 'yes.'

Afterwards, the celebrations continued with a dinner at Trattoria Dell'Arte in the heart of NYC.

And upon arriving back to Dallas, the pair enjoyed another celebratory meal at the Ritz Hotel in Las Colinas - with both their parents also joining in.

Olivia first met Alex when she accompanied her father to a wedding in Texas last year.

However, when her father was late, Williams - who had been an usher - offered to escort the reality star down the aisle.

Earlier this year in May, the blonde beauty rung in their one-year anniversary and uploaded a post to Instagram.

Along with sharing a few photos of the pair together, she typed out in the caption, 'After arriving late to a wedding (& tripping up the church stairs) I was met by a handsome usher to take me to my seat.'

'Later, that same usher asked my date (my dad) if he could dance with me… A year later and we're still dancing (and tripping up stairs) Cheers to stage 5 clinging.'

Flowers previously dated Southern Charm co-star, Austen Kroll - and the two were first linked in 2021.

Their relationship played out during season 8 - but the stars had split before the reunion special.

In July of this year, Olivia confirmed that she will not be returning for the 10th season of Southern Charm.

During an appearance on Scheana Shay's Scheananigans podcast, Flowers said, 'I'm not on this new season. So I have a lot more free time.'

'It wasn't my choice. I was a little thrown off by it, especially with how the last season went. I feel I really gave everything I could.'

She then revealed that one of the reasons she had been fired from the Bravo series was because she was dating Alex - who lived in Dallas.

'I was super bummed. I got the call a few weeks before filming. The production company was just like, "You don't really seem to be in Charleston that much."'

'"We're noticing on your Instagram you're in Texas, you've got this new boyfriend, and it just seems like you're choosing a different path."'

'I don't think it's choosing a different path. I'm just kinda living my life. My parents had just officially moved to Texas, and the boyfriend thing just happened very randomly,' Flowers added.

'I'm really glad... like, he was the best part that came out of that year. But had I know it was working against me or making people think I was choosing a different path? I wish there had been more communication there.'

Olivia continued, 'I think that's the part I'm most bummed about. I wanted to have another season to get to be more me. Last season was very heavy, and I was honestly just trying to keep my head above water.'

'I was looking forward to having another one and getting to be a little bit more myself, show my personality and exploring the new friendships and all of that.'

Last year, Flowers lost her brother Conner after he passed away at the age of 32 on January 30, 2023.

Later that same year in November, it was reported that he had died from an accidental fentanyl overdose - which Flowers revealed to People at the time.

She explained that her late brother had become addicted to prescription medication to alleviate his Lyme disease symptoms.

'My brother hated talking about his illness. So many people, even in his close circle, didn't know about his Lyme,' the reality star stated.

'So again, to hear he died of a fentanyl overdose, there's immediately going to be this assumption that he was partying. Conner wasn't like that. This was a relapse. This was his means to survive.'

She also reflected to the outlet, 'My brother, he was very lively and loved bringing people together; he literally made friends everywhere we'd go.'

'Even when we went on vacation, we'd go down the hotel lobby to get breakfast and he knew everyone by name. He was this 6'5" beautiful guy who had the biggest heart.'

She stated that his treatment for Lyme led to his addiction and said, 'It's just heartbreaking. There are these holes in the healthcare system, and my brother fell into one...'
