Southern Charm's Shep Rose Speaks Out on Kathryn Dennis' Enigmatic Posts About Salley Carson: 'It Seemed Like She Was Struggling' - lulu

Shep Rose “didn’t like” what he saw from Kathryn Dennis‘ recent Instagram posts, in which she seemingly shaded current Southern Charm cast member Salley Carson.

Rose, who’s been a Southern Charm mainstay since Season 1, said he was “told about” his former co-star’s cryptic video message before watching it for himself.

“I didn’t like what I saw,” Rose told Decider while promoting his new partnership with UScellular. “It looked like she wasn’t in a good state of mind. I can’t speak to that, though. I wasn’t there.”

In a video posted to her Instagram Story, Dennis seemingly accused Carson—who joined Southern Charm as a full-time cast member in Season 10—of copying her second season on the Bravo show, which aired in 2015.

“I heard on the next season that someone buys the same car, dyes their hair the same color as me, of course, the OG. And then it’s because they tried to put the E before the Y,” Dennis said, referring to the way Carson spells her first name. “Oops, did I just accidentally bust your arc for Season 11, which is, I think, 2.5, a.k.a you’re trying to be my second season, which is super lame, but also kind of weird.”

In a second video, Dennis cryptically added, “And she sells seashells by the seashore, LOL. Tortured poet, babe, tortured Edgar [Allan Poe]. Bro, this is not broccolini. This is the O of the storm, baby. Unfold. And say Bravo, the opera sang the name, the fake one. Gosh, I’m sorry, it’s you.”

Rose, for his part, didn’t understand what kind of beef Dennis could have with Carson, who joined the show long after Dennis announced her exit in 2023.

“I’m not quite sure I followed her line of thinking, but I did detect Salley was implicated,” Rose said. “I don’t understand the connection all that much. I don’t know if Salley even really knows Kathryn, or how Kathryn knows anything about Salley. It’s news to me.”

Still, Rose empathized with his former co-star, whose on-again-off-again relationship and brutal custody battle with Thomas Ravenel was documented through her tumultuous eight seasons on Southern Charm.

“Man, I wish her the best,” Rose added. “It’s so sad sometimes—I’m sure it is, I can’t speak from experience—when you’re in a custody situation. I just can’t imagine the anguish that occurs. So I feel for her.”

Like Rose, Dennis was an OG cast member on Southern Charm. At only 21 years old, her story became a central focus on the show as she struck up a romance with a then-50-year-old Ravenel. The former couple went on to have two children together—Kensington “Kenzie”, 11, and Saint Julien, 9—before Ravenel was fired from the show ahead of Season 6 over sexual assault allegations from his former nanny.

Dennis remained on the show through Season 8, but announced her departure ahead of Season 9.

“What a wild ride it’s been! Can you believe I was 21 when I first started filming Southern Charm, back in its first season? That was in 2013, and in the decade that followed, it’s safe to say my life changed in ways I could never imagine,” Dennis wrote in a statement to People at the time. “It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m so lucky to have had reality cameras there, capturing so many moments that I’ll never forget (and a few, even, that I’d like to).”

The first 10 seasons of Southern Charm are currently streaming on Peacock.
