Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador opened up about her DUI on the LadyGang and explained how her toxic relationship with John Janssen caused her to make a terrible decision.
Shannon speaks out:
The aftermath of Shannon’s arrest came after a fight she had with John Janssen at his house. With a blood alcohol level that was allegedly 0.24, three times the legal limit, Shannon crashed her car into a nearby residential building.
“I stayed in a relationship that I knew wasn’t healthy, and I made the choices.” In the past, Shannon said she wouldn’t drive after “a sip of alcohol.” With that said, “Nobody put a gun to my head and said, ‘Get in the car.’ I did it, and I’ll own it over and over again.”
“My emotions got the best of me. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t wake up, and I am so thankful that I didn’t hurt anybody. I don’t know how I could have recovered from that.” She acknowledged, “I am incredibly grateful for that, and I do want to take accountability. I never want to hide from anything.”
The aftermath:
Shannon decided to face her fans and critics and address the mistake she made head on. “BravoCon was one month after the DUI. That was tough. There was question whether I should go, but it was so important for me to not hide at home. I wanted to face the music, and I wanted people to see that I was going to take responsibility. And, I’m going to continue to do that.”
For a while, the RHOC star admitted, “I thought that I was in a hole that I couldn’t dig myself out of.” Thankfully, Shannon’s perspective evolved. “I know that I’m a stronger person for it. I can honestly say that I’ve never been happier than I am right now. So, I know now that all of it happened to get me here.”
Shannon can be found on Bravo’s new dating show, Love Hotel, premiering on Sunday, April 27th at 9 pm.
