Dorit Kemsley is digging deeper into the complicated relationship between her and Kyle Richards in a recent episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic Podcast.
In the Season 14 premiere of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills — now available to watch on Bravo and Peacock — the women got no closer to finding resolution in their ongoing feud. Bravo producer and Hot Mic host Alex Baskin noted how Dorit “came out of the gate guns blazing” in the current RHOBH season, something that nearly didn't happen, on the podcast’s Season 3, Episode 3.
“I had a lot of things that I had not shared with Kyle, feelings that I had that I needed to get off my chest,” Dorit told Baskin. “And the only way I was able to move past our differences or to move forward with her was to not only express how I felt, and really feel comfortable to do that, but also feel like it’s heard, it’s understood, and it’s appreciated, and it took a minute for that to happen."
Why aren't Dorit and Kyle friends anymore?
Several events have led to the crumbling of Dorit and Kyle’s friendship, stemming all the way back to BravoCon 2023. On one hand, Kyle claimed Dorit questioned her crying over Kyle’s separation from Mauricio Umansky. Adding insult to injury, Kyle felt miffed when Dorit jokingly placed Kyle last when asked to rank her favorite Richards sisters.
On the other hand, Dorit criticized Kyle for sending her a lengthy text, “basically trying to silence” Dorit ahead of the Season 13 reunion. She also took issue when Kyle took to Amazon Live and said Dorit was “exaggerating” details about their friendship.
“You know, there was a period of time [when] I felt … outside of her inner circle,” Dorit detailed on the recent podcast episode. “It felt like our relationship was strained, and it wasn’t my choice.”
Dorit said she felt like she’d been “put there” as Kyle continued with her “close-knit group.”
“I really believe that Kyle and I had a very close friendship,” Dorit continued. “You don’t feel as close to somebody — and I know she was going through a lot of things — so I gave her a lot of grace, and I understood, and didn’t want to press and push. But then after a sustained period of time, you start to feel like, ‘Wait a minute, what kind of friendship is this?’”
For Dorit — now amid her ongoing separation from Paul “PK” Kemsley — Kyle’s public Amazon Live statement was “the final straw.”
Dorit said putting all her cards on the table would have resulted in Kyle not speaking to her for months “because that’s what ends up happening if you upset her.”
But, Dorit told Baskin, the cold shoulder persisted anyway even without Dorit saying her piece.
“It just felt like there’s no way for me to actually get the friendship that I thought we had, a true friendship, without being totally honest and open,” Dorit said. “And I think she was surprised.”
Later in her Hot Mic sit-down, Dorit said she didn’t have the patience, will, or desire to “have fake friends.”
Will Kyle and Dorit be friends again?
If Dorit’s interview was any indication, not all hope is lost. She said one of the things she missed most about Kyle was how much they laughed together, and when asked by Baskin if the friendship could be mended, Dorit had this to say:
“I do believe we can get back to that place ’cause we had a couple of moments this season, some epic moments where we felt that, and it was like, ‘Wow,’” said Dorit. “Both her and I acknowledged it, felt it, and it had been a while.”
