Respect NHL reporter Jim Matheson brutally disrespects New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox Instead of minding his own business, and levying criticisms against a team that can't beat the Panthers, Matheson picked on an easy target, Fox.![Adam Fox]()
The New York Rangers aren't perfect by far. We all know their shortcomings, and we've witnessed Chris Drury's efforts in real time to shore up the team, from the middle of the season to now.
But for some people, they can't stop bullying others, and that is what Jim Matheson, who covers the losers, the Edmonton Oilers, did this week.
We can expect to see players like Quinn Hughes, and Cale Makar on lists of the top-defenseman in the NHL yearly, and arguably Adam Fox.
Matheson reveals his true option on New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox
But Matheson doesn't believe Fox, a former Norris Trophy winner, is worth a mention. Of course, the 2024-25 season had a diverse list of defenseman we haven't seen lately, including Zach Werenski and Rasmus Dahlin. But to him, Fox is a bridge too far.
Matheson of the Edmonton Journal would take to social media and denounce Fox as he doesn't believe he deserves that kind of recognition as a top-5 defenseman in the league, despite a consensus on the topic.
Fox, despite this being a "down year" for him, still managed to put up 61 points (10-51) in 74 games.
While he'd leave the ice for good with a +9, and remains one of the best Rangers defenseman in modern history.
While we don't dispute Quinn Hughes or Cale Makar's place in this discussion, Fox belongs there, too.
Matheson's bone to pick with the list deals with Evan Bouchard, who has yet to prove himself as an elite defenseman in the NHL despite his massive new contract. With Bouchard left off the list, Matheson seemed to pick the first name off the list, leaving Fox the odd man out.
