It's been reported that the New York Rangers were once suitors for the Buffalo Sabres' top-six forward, JJ Peterka. The Rangers and GM Chris Drury would've been able to solve one issue with him in the lineup: offense. But it appears it wasn't meant to be, as the German forward remains in the Sabres organization.![JJ Peterka]()
The only question is, in July, will he remain?
According to the Daily FaceOff's Frank Seravalli, Buffalo Sabres forward JJ Peterka could've been a New York Ranger.
A dynamic, top-six talent, which the Rangers are missing at the moment, might've been a key piece in the push for the playoffs this year.
But instead, we'll have to hear tales of how GM Chris Drury failed.
Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) on X Keep an eye on #NYR on Friday. Sources indicate Rangers have had «advanced discussions» with #Sabrehood on forward JJ Peterka. Let's see where it goes. From @SportsOnPrimeCA:
The German-born forward is one of the only bright spots on a dismal Buffalo Sabres roster.
This year, he's scored 51 points in 59 games with the Sabres, coming close to a PPG average in 2024-2025.
This is a career-high for the forward, who only scored 50 points in 82 games last season.
The Sabres could look to retool the lineup, and with news of multiple players being unhappy with the situation, could we see Peterka exit stage left from Buffalo?
The team was 24-31-6 this season, with a total of 54 points.
They finished 14th in the Eastern Conference and weren't even considered playoff contenders after showing a bit of promise not too long ago.
