New York Rangers are now officially one of many teams in talks with former 41-goal scorer from Dallas

The New York Rangers could fix a hole in the top-six by making a trade for 41-goal scorer Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars. But the question is, will GM Chris Drury think the cost is worth it?Jason Robertson

Jason Robertson is a name we'd never expect to hear as a trade target for the Rangers. But with the upcoming cap issues, the Dallas Stars will need to pivot and find a new home for him soon.
This season with the Stars, he scored a total of 80 points (35-45) and made $7.75 million against the Dallas Stars' cap. He'll be in his final year of his four-year deal signed with the Stars in 2022.
The team at the moment only has $4.9 million in cap space, and with Mikko Rantanen claiming a significant chunk of money, Robertson may be the odd-man out.

According to USA Today's Vince Mercogliano, who covers the Rangers, GM Chris Drury is in on him.
«Teams are buzzing around the 25-year-old All-Star, wondering if they can seize on Dallas' itch for change following its third straight loss in the Western Conference Final,» Vince Mercogliano of USA Today wrote. «The Rangers, I'm told, are one of them.»

Like multiple NHL teams across the league, after finishing below their expectations, a coach was fired, and a number of trades have been planned.
Robertson will be due an increase in pay after his 80-point season in 2024-2025, and the Rangers could find the space to accommodate him if they could sign him to an extension.
Both teams are looking to shake up their rosters significantly, and while speculation is ongoing, nothing is confirmed whether or not GM Jim Nill will make Robertson available for trades in July.
