Not long after the team lost safety Tre'von Moehrig to the Carolina Panthers in free agency, the Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly found his replacement.
According to FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz, the Raiders have agreed to terms with now-former Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Chinn on a two-year deal that is worth over $16 million in total.
"BREAKING: Free agent safety Jeremy Chinn is signing with the Raiders on a 2-year deal worth over $16M, including over 75% fully guaranteed at signing. A major addition to the Vegas secondary," Schultz wrote.
The deal with Chinn is worth significantly less than the one Moehrig signed with the Panthers, which was a reported three-year deal worth $51 million that can go as high as $60 million with incentives.
A former second-round pick of the Panthers in 2020, Chinn spent the first four years of his career in Carolina before moving on to play for the Commanders in 2024.
Chinn played in all 17 games for Washington last season but struggled mightily in coverage, as he surrendered a completion rate of 73.6% and a passer rating of 131.2. He fared much better against the run, posting a 72.2 Pro Football Focus grade, which ranked 48th among safeties.
Chinn has done a little bit of everything during his career, with the veteran having lined up in the box, on the back end, and in the slot. However, as evidenced by his coverage numbers, his best spot is in the box.
