Raiders linked to former $36 million 4-time Pro Bowl playmaker in free agency - suong

The Las Vegas Raiders still have a lot of work to do in free agency, as the team has a plethora of needs that must be addressed before April's draft.

General manager John Spytek still has a good chunk of money to spend, and LAFB Network's Ryan Anderson believes the Raiders should look to sign Cleveland Browns free agent running back Nick Chubb.

"Nick Chubb's appearance on the field in 2024, following a severe knee injury in 2023 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a testament to his extraordinary resilience. This echoes his recovery from a similarly significant knee injury during his college career, which preceded one of the most efficient starts to a career for a running back in NFL history," Anderson wrote.

"In 2024, however, Chubb's performance did not quite match his usual standards. He appeared less elusive and powerful, and he shared playing time with Jerome Ford despite being given a substantial role upon his return. It is plausible that Chubb requires a full offseason to fully rehabilitate and prepare his body for the demands of an NFL game workload," Anderson added.

Chubb has dealt with a few severe injuries over the last two years, as the veteran played just two games in 2023 after suffering a serious knee injury that caused him to miss some time in 2024 as well. Chubb returned to game action halfway through the 2024 campaign but played just eight games before breaking his foot in a Week 15 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

When on the field last year, the four-time Pro Bowler didn't look great, as Chubb rushed for 332 yards and three touchdowns on 3.3 yards per carry.

Though he has endured two unfortunate injuries since 2023 and may never return to his Pro Bowl form, the Raiders should take a flyer on Chubb. Las Vegas' running back room is incredibly lackluster, and the former Georgia standout would immediately step in as the top player in the position group.

Chubb will also be cheap to sign, as Spotrac and Pro Football Focus believe the 29-year-old will land a one-year deal worth around $3 million on the open market.
