Proposed Eagles, Bengals blockbuster sends $60M superstar to Philly for players, picks - suong

It’s been a low-key start to the 2025 league year for the Philadelphia Eagles, but that could always change with one phone call by GM Howie Roseman.

The Eagles have already swung multiple trades as they work to retool their roster and create financial flexibility in future years to sign their rising young stars on defense. It’s led to a lot of big-name talent exiting from last year’s Super Bowl roster, and a lot of fringe roster guys coming in from outside teams.

Philly has reportedly remained active in the trade market, seeking a high Day 3 pick for star tight end Dallas Goedert and any compensation whatsoever for 2024 free agent bust Bryce Huff. Logan Fulmer of The Wright Way Network recently proposed a blockbuster trade with the Cincinnati Bengals that would solve several problems in one fell swoop.

Fulmer predicts the Eagles could explore a trade for superstar EDGE Trey Hendrickson in exchange for Goedert, Huff and two Day 3 draft picks. Here was his take on the hypothetical deal for TWSN:

Let’s start with Dallas Goedert. The Bengals have been missing a do it all Tight End and Goedert is exactly that. He has registered over a 70 overall PFF grade in each of his 7 NFL seasons, giving this offense a high end, reliable Tight End for once. While Bryce Huff is not a direct Hendrickson replacement, his pass rushing skills would be a welcomed addition. He struggled a bit in Philadelphia this past season, but in the two years prior he totaled 14 sacks and posted over a 86 PFF pass rushing grade. The athletic upside he possesses allows for reasonable hope of him returning back to form. The Bengals only have six total picks in the upcoming draft so adding another fourth and fifth rounder is more valuable to them than most. These extra picks allow them to fill out a more complete roster while adding more affordable young talent.

This trade proposal is a whopper, and would come down to Hendrickson’s looming contract extension. Spotrac projects the Bengals star to land a two-year extension worth $63 million, an average annual value of over $31 million per year that would fly in the face of Philly’s cost-saving efforts to start 2025.

With that said, the Eagles have a serious need at EDGE after the first wave of free agency. They lost the $76.4 million Josh Sweat in free agency to the Arizona Cardinals and, so far, have replaced him with cheap, situational pass rusher Josh Uche. They have the ascending Nolan Smith Jr. and another strong option in Jalyx Hunt, who finished his 2024 rookie season with a bang, but with Huff going out in this hypothetical, the cupboard would be mostly bare behind them. The team would be forced to potentially overpay for another mid-tier free agent, like Azeez Ojulari of the New York Giants, or address the position hard in the 2025 NFL Draft this April.

While you can never count out Roseman when it comes to trading for a big-name player like Hendrickson, a move like this feels about as unlikely as the Myles Garrett speculation did. It would require the team to not only relinquish draft capital — which they’ve been actively stockpiling both through trades and projected compensatory picks — but commit huge sums of cash that appears earmarked for their own guys who are next in line, like Jalen Carter.

If the Eagles do end up moving Goedert or Huff, look for them to recoup Day 3 draft capital in those deals, rather than the other way around.
