NHL Insider has just leaked a very significant update regarding the Rangers landing Sam Bennett

The New York Rangers could look to add meaningful talent during the postseason. The Panthers' own Sam Bennett could be a great option to keep the team in win-now mode, as the UFA could seek a better contract in July.Sam Bennett

While Mitch Marner's next destination remains on the free agency wire, there are other UFAs who are just as valuable who will be available.
He's no Brad Marchand or Nikolaj Ehlers.
It's Sam Bennett, who by no means is a 100+ point scorer. But he's a gritty forward who can play both sides of the puck and has one Stanley Cup to his name already.

With experience in the postseason and a veteran who knows how to win, he could be a great addition to the Rangers down the middle.
For the Rangers to add the forward, NHL Insider E.J. Hradek, Bennett's next deal could project to be up to $10 million AAV.
Bennett may not have a 100+ season to his name, but he's a postseason performer. He's scored a total of 42 points in 53 postseason games with the Panthers, and plays a heavy game.
There could end up being a bidding war over Bennett. GM Chris Drury should get involved early, so if it does come to that, he knows when to back off or, or at least, plan his next moves after acquiring him, especially if his next contract is in the $10 million range.
It'll be difficult to see him landing back in Canada, but he could find a home in New York easily.
In 76 games this season, he scored 51 points with Paul Maurice's Florida Panthers.
