The New York Rangers have made it clear that they would like to move off Rangers forward Chris Kreider's contract this summer and according to one NHL insider his value may surprise many pundits.![New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider #nhl #rangers]()
The argument being discussed is the ability for the Rangers to trade Chris Kreider with his full contract rather than retaining some of his 6.5 million per season deal to make the deal work.
Seravalli thinks there are teams willing to take the whole salary
Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli explained that several teams in the NHL would be willing to take on the entire contract of Kreider as he would provide goal scoring for teams that are starving for goals.
«This was a really tough year for him and he still ended up with 22 goals,» NHL insider Frank Seravalli said of Kreider. «I look at that contract and say '$6.5 million?' If I'm a team starving for goals, I'm all over that because I'm thinking he's going to have a bounce-back year.» - Frank Seravalli
The 34-year-old winger who stands at 6 foot 3 and 230 lbs would certainly give a team much needed size on the wing while having the knack for scoring many goals as he did back in 2021-2022 when he potted in 52 goals.
Last season was a dreadful one for his stat line as he was injured and only able to play 68 games while scoring 22 goals with eight assists for 30 points along with 24 penalty minutes.
With the salary cap rising over the next three years, teams will need to get to the salary floor and a contract like Kreider's along with his goal scoring ability could be worthy of trading for.
Rangers looking for a different look for team next season
Trading Kreider would certainly give the Rangers a different look next year as this appears to be the goal for general manager Chris Drury.
With two years remaining on his deal, teams will be calling for his services, but it remains to be seen on what the return would be considering his numbers have slipped.
Rangers fans will need to wait and see how everything transpires this summer and it will begin at the draft which will start on June 27th and then the real fun begins on July 1st where unrestricted free agency takes hold.
