NFL makes final punishment decision on Jameson Williams after Detroit Lions receiver’s ‘obscene’ gesture

DETROIT Lions star Jameson Williams has been hit with a fine by the NFL.

Williams, 23, was punished for his celebration in last week's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The wide receiver scored on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff in the third quarter.

And he paid tribute to former Seattle Seahawks star Marshawn Lynch as he crossed into the end zone.

Williams placed his hand on his groin as he dived in for the score to extend Detroit's lead to 35-6.

But the NFL decided that the gesture was obscene and punished him.

He was hit with a $19,697 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct, it was announced Sunday.

Detroit won the game 52-6 in a complete mismatch.

Williams' speed and explosive play-making have helped make the Lions one of the best teams in football.

The third-year receiver has 29 catches for 602 yards and four touchdowns in 2024.

But he's been hurt by suspension issues already during his young career.

He was suspended for six games in 2023 for violating the league's gambling policy.

The ban was later reduced to four, and he was able to make his season debut two weeks earlier than expected.

Earlier this year, he was given a two-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing substance policy.

Williams caught five passes for 64 yards in Sunday's 24-6 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

The win improved the Lions to 10-1 for the year.

They face the Chicago Bears in the early game on Thanksgiving.

“This is, whatever it is, 10 quarters without allowing a touchdown and the three last games in the second half we're not allowing it,” head coach Dan Campbell said.

“We talk about it all the time — limiting points, play physical style, shut down the run.

"We were able to do that.

“If you can win on the road, you're normally a pretty damn good team.

"And we can win on the road."
