Last season, the New York Rangers were the regular season NHL champions and they also won the Metropolitan Division.
When the season began, the team decided to have a special ceremony at their home opener. During this ceremony, the team felt that it would be a good idea to raise two banners. One of these was to celebrate their regular season championship win. The other was for the Division title.
On a recent episode of Spittin Chiclets, the hosts decided to bash the Rangers for the decision to put up the banners. While they understand that it is probably ownership who decided this, they still feel like it is in poor taste.
As it turns out, there are a whole lot of hockey fans who feel the exact same way. In the tweets down below, you can see all of the negative reactions to what the Rangers did here. While some may find these reactions to be a bit over the top, others will believe that they are necessary and that teams ought to be shamed for this kind of thing.
This season, the Rangers will just need to go out and earn a real banner. They are a Stanley Cup contender and with some good goaltending and a roaring offense, they can definitely beat juggernauts like the Florida Panthers and even the Boston Bruins.
