New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette has made a significant change to his power play units as he has split them up for their next game against the Vancouver Canucks.New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette #nhl #Rangers

It appears that change was needed after the Rangers had lost two there original six rivals the Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 4-3.

Laviolette looking for a jolt from the power play

His new units appear to be a little more balanced as he attempts to spread out his offence and hopes to get goals from both power play one and power plays two.

After last night's game, the Rangers currently sits 25th in the league when it comes to power play percentage which sits at 18.4% efficiency. By contrast their penalty killing is in the top 10 as it currently sits 6th overall at 82.2% efficiency.
Those power play numbers certainly need to rise if the Rangers wish to make the playoffs this year as the team had faltered in November and December and has
been working very diligently and hard to getting back into a playoff spot.
"We're letting games go by and we're not putting points in the column. We've got to win hockey games.»

Playoff races are getting tighter every game

The Eastern Conference playoff race is growing tighter with every passing game and the margin of error for the Rangers and other teams is becoming much more critical.
Laviolette and his coaching staff will be working hard to try to coax life into their power play as specialty teams will become vital for any playoff run.
Rangers superstar Artemi Panarin has eight power play goals this season and Chris Kreider currently has six.
The Rangers next game will be a hallmark game for the season as the Vancouver Canucks will be facing off against their old player JT Miller who was traded earlier this year back to the Rangers.
The game will be held on Saturday March 22nd at 1:00 PM eastern.
