New York Rangers star defenseman Adam Fox spoke to Mollie Walker of ESPN and explained but the power play is the biggest issue facing the Rangers as they battled for a playoff spot.
Fox feels that the execution is what's the issue and it's quite evident in the standings as the New York Rangers sit 27th in the league when it comes to power play efficiency which sits at 17.2%.
Rangers have flipped script from last season's issue
At this time last year, the Rangers we're having trouble scoring five on five as the team relied on its power play to push themselves into the President's trophy and all the way to the Eastern Conference final.
Special teams have been their trouble as the Rangers have sat 2 for their last 45 and allowed three shorthanded goals which could spell disaster for any team especially trying to make the playoffs.
The team has also run into a power issue in terms of offense as they haven't scored in the past couple of games and up until tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, they've been outscored 9-0 and have not looked like a competitive team.
Rangers looking for a miracle to make the playoffs
The playoff race is dimming fast for the Rangers as the team now needs to win at least five of their final six games and hope that the Montreal Canadiens lose some of their edge as they are winners of their last five straight games.
It's safe to say if the Rangers failed to make the playoffs after being the presidents trophy winners last year, major changes will be on the way for the Blueshirts.
Whether that comes through the front office in general manager Chris Drury or head coach Peter Laviolette and major personnel changes on the ice, there's a good chance that the Rangers may not look the same next year.
In the meantime, the Rangers are still in the fight and until they are officially eliminated, they will continue to push and try to sneak into a wild card.
