The New York Rangers have a unique opportunity to pursue Denver's Head Coach, David Carle.
It was reported today that he is withdrawing consideration from the Chicago Blackhawks head coaching role. He would've taken over the helm from Interim Coach Anders Sorensen, who was unable to give the team a winning edge in the NHL.
Carle is a candidate who can command his own paycheck due to his winning past with the Denver Pioneers. He has a record of 179-74-17, two Gold Medals in IIHF World Junior Championships, and two NCAA Championship wins.
Given that GM Chris Drury has just fired Peter Laviolette, he should do his due diligence on Carle. Carle has helped to develop multiple NHL prospects at the collegiate and international level.
He has connections through defenseman Drew Fortescue in both IIHF World Junior Championship wins.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned before that Carle has the power behind him, given he's still under a multi-year extension with Denver that runs into 2026-2027.
What could the Rangers lure him to New York with?
The average first-time NHL head coach salary is about $1.2 million, which is already about $500,000 more than what David Carle makes at the University of Denver.
On that $1.2 million number, Friedman suggests that, «It's going to be a lot more than that Carles has that power.

It may cost upwards of $2-3 million AAV to bring him here for his first NHL coaching role. But they'll have to anticipate the problems with coaches past, including David Quinn who was a success in the NCAA but has failed to translate that into winning at an NHL level.
