Matt Rempe's Humiliating Suspension Was The Best Thing To Ever Happen To Him

Matt Rempe’s eight-game suspension may be the best thing to happen to the New York Rangers and the young enforcer.

Rempe was suspended back in December due to a hit on Miro Heiskanen.

It was a humbling experience for Rempe as he was playing in his first game after being recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack when he delivered that brutal hit.

The 22-year-old had some time to talk with his coaches and do some soul-searching, which certainly seemed to help.

He’s come back a completely different player.

Once his suspension was over, Rempe vowed to play a cleaner game while still bringing a physical presence, and that’s exactly what he’s been able to do.

Rempe has now played in 10 consecutive games and continues to make an impact when on the ice.

He’s still that same physical player, but he hasn’t made any glaring mistakes in terms of committing ill-advised penalties or dirty hits. He’s also brought an energy to the Rangers they desperately needed.

Even offensively Rempe is finding his groove playing on a line alongside Sam Carrick and Adam Edström.

Rempe’s hard work is paying off in a huge way.

“There is no question he has gotten better and there is no question he still has work to do to get better,” Peter Laviolette said about Rempe. “You see it's an optional today and he’s on the ice, working on things that can help his game. He’s putting in the time. He did this summer and he has every day since he’s been here. He’s been in the lineup and has been a positive influence for our team.”

For the first time maybe ever, Rempe has found a secure spot in the lineup and we’ll have to see if it stays that way.
