Lions' Aidan Hutchinson Issues Reality Check on Myles Garrett Team-Up

There's undoubtedly no shortage of suitors for Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett in the wake of the four-time All-Pro's trade request earlier this month. And it's not just front offices and fans dreaming up ways to acquire Garrett.

Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson can be counted among the players who have spoken directly with Garrett about a potential team-up.

On Wednesday, a video of Hutchinson addressing conversations he had with Garrett at NFL Honors earlier this month — and their shared opinion that the pairing would make the Lions' defensive line "deadly" — surfaced via "The Squeeze" podcast with The Lautners.

And while there appears to be shared enthusiasm about Garrett coming to the Motor City, Hutchinson noted that such a scenario was not likely to play out.

“We were just talking about what could be,” Hutchinson said. “And, although it’s probably unlikely, I would be thrilled to play next to him if it were to happen."

Still, as Hutchinson sees it, acquiring Garrett would be transformative for Detroit's defense.

"Our whole D-Line would be just totally elevated. That would be a scary defensive line. And we get along, too. I’ve seen him these last few years at different things. He texted me after I got hurt, which, I don’t know, it was just a cool thing. Like guys outside of your own team who reach out to you. So I think he’s a good dude. If he does, great, but I don’t know. We’ll see. But that would be awesome.”

After the Browns finished the season with a 3-14 record, Garrett made his trade request official with a statement released Feb. 3.

"While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.

"With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."

Hutchinson, meanwhile, is recovering from leg fractures suffered during the Lions' Week 6 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
