Kyle Richards opened up about the challenging co-parenting moments she’s faced with her estranged husband, Mauricio Umansky after last week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
While also looking ahead to her future as an empty nester, Kyle, 56, confirmed the upcoming wedding date of her daughter, Alexia Umansky, 28, dished on the college plans of her youngest, Portia Umansky, 17, and admitted that she and Mauricio, 54, have gone through hard times.
“It’s hard sometimes, going through this,” Kyle shared on the February 4 episode of the RHOBH: After Show. “Mau and I have these conversations. Like, one day, I got annoyed by something in Aspen and he’s like, ‘Listen, we have a lot of important dates coming up. We want to have good energy together.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, you’re right.'”
According to Kyle, she feels especially challenged when she comes across headlines about Mauricio, who has been linked to a number of women since they split. However, she does her best to stay focused on her family’s health.
“We have so much happening because Alexia’s getting married [on] September 6 in Aspen. And Portia, we are taking her to tour schools in the spring,” Kyle explained, noting that she plans to be a “calm, cool, and collected mother of the bride” to Alexia.
“Alexia is very hands-on. She knows exactly what she wants. She is planning like crazy. And I’m just saying, ‘Okay, yes. Love it! Perfect!’ … She has a very clear vision of what she wants and basically, we just have to pay for it,” Kyle continued.
As for Portia, Kyle revealed that she’s “changed her mind a couple [of] times” about college.
“But we will be touring different schools. She wants her dad, her mom, [and] her three sisters, to all come to look at these schools so we can all make this decision together,” Kyle shared.
Also, on the RHOBH After Show, after noting that she feels like she’s been a mom for her whole life, Kyle admitted that her family dynamic will soon change.
“Everything has been about doing everything for everyone else, and when Portia goes to college, it’s going to be quite an adjustment. Right now, my life is still built very much around Portia’s schedule so it’s going to be interesting to all the sudden have that freedom to do what I want,” she explained.
Continuing on, Kyle said that once Portia leaves home, she doesn’t see herself as someone who will live in one spot.
“I feel like I’m always going to be in Aspen, [Los Angeles], somewhere else. I don’t know. I feel like, at that point, I can do what I want in my life. I don’t have to stay in one place. Maybe I’ll live on a farm … I’ll just kind of bop around, and [Sophia Umansky] will either still be living with me or not,” she stated of her 25-year-old daughter.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 14 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
