Back on Dec. 19, it was reported that Mayo would be back in New England for next season. They made that announcement with three games left on the schedule. Since that news was revealed, the Pats have been outscored 64-28, dropping both games.

The Week 17 loss was embarrassing, as they fell 40-7 to the Los Angeles Chargers. On Monday morning, Mayo was asked if he was given assurances by ownership and gave a positive update.

Patriots News: Jerod Mayo Feels Confident Going Forward

Mayo said, "I'm always in constant communication with ownership, and feel like we're still on the same page."

That is the kind of answer you would expect from a coach. He would never come out and say his job is in jeopardy, even if it was. While it sounds like Mayo and ownership appear to be on the same page, nothing is locked in.

During the blowout loss to the Chargers, there were 'Fire Mayo' chants exploding from the crowd.
