Earlier this week Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was hit with a punishment from the league of his choice of outfit.
The star quarterback was hit with a $5,628 fine for wearing cleats that were not the same color, one of which was not the Eagles' "Constitutional team colors," according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Pelissero revealed the NFL's rulebook states: “A player may wear shoes that are black, white, or any Constitutional team color, or any combination of black, white, and a Constitutional team color.”
In a conversation with reporters, Hurts revealed the cleats he was supposed to wear didn't make it to the stadium on time before suggesting that he might be wearing the "illegal" pair of shoes again.
"We'll see," he said plainly.
Well, he's a man of his word. On Sunday afternoon he took the field for a game against the Washington Commanders in his two-colored cleats, knowing the league will likely fine him again.
Ahead of last weekend's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Hurts and the Eagles passing attack took plenty of heat. He responded to that criticism by completing 25-of-32 passing for 290 yards with two touchdowns through the air and another 45 yards and a touchdown on the ground in the team's 27-13 win.
"It was a team effort. I think the reality is, just because we don't [pass the ball] doesn't mean we can't," he said. "We were able to get collective hands on deck this week and put up a good game plan to come out here and play," Hurts said. "I'm proud of how we played. Defense played their tails off earlier in the game. We had guys make plays all throughout the game and for the most part did a good job in protection."
Philadelphia and Washington kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET.
