For a while, MAFS bride Beth Kelly didn't want anything to do with ex-husband Teejay Halkias.
After marrying midway through the experiment, Beth pulled the plug on their relationship before Final Vows after Teejay confessed his feelings weren't progressing.
When they returned to their joint hometown of Brisbane, Beth told 9Entertainment she was actively avoiding Teejay's attempts to reach out.
"It's been a bit of a bumpy ride between us," Beth admitted.
"Watching it back was really difficult for me because I got feelings for someone who clearly didn't have any for me, and there was a bit of a rough patch where I ignored quite a few of his text messages," she continued.
However, Beth realised that "being angry at someone's a very heavy emotion", so she reached out to Teejay and set things straight.
"I invited him to my apartment, we had a conversation and I got everything off my chest and that felt really good," she explained, adding that she was proud of herself for the mature approach.
"It's quite hard to have a conversation like that, especially when you're so emotional," she said.
"But Teejay actually said to me, 'You're such a good person, you could have literally invited me over tonight and bit my head off and screamed and yelled at me and you just haven't'. I think that made him respect me even more."
Since then, they have seen each other at events and at dinners with fellow cast mates.
"Everything's fine. We don't hang out separately or one-on-one but obviously in a group environment. At the end of the day, we did go through that amazing experience together so we're always going to have that connection, you know?" Beth said.
"It's always going to feel familiar, we're always going to have that friendship."
After the on-screen heartache, Beth had begun dating again but was not in a rush to find a relationship.
"Even though I'd love to have a relationship I want to take some time to focus on me – but I have been on a few dates. I've definitely dipped my toe back into it. I'm not seeing anybody at the moment, but I'm definitely putting myself out there."
Speaking of putting herself out there, Beth has been making plenty of exciting moves in recent months. She officially moved out of her parents' home and recently quit her job.
"Obviously, the last year was a huge year. You know, the whole year was dedicated to auditioning and filming, and then you watch it back and that's all very hectic," she reflected.
"I think this is a really good time for me to have some downtime, so I'm actually not looking for a job at the moment. I've got savings so money wise I'm all good and I just want to take some time to really fill my cup back up and focus on me."
