Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos reunited with Guy Gansert at the live taping of After the Final Rose.
After Guy, 66, asked if there was “something missing” in their relationship, Joan, 61, reassured him there was nothing. “It comes down to it being kind of a time thing,” she said during the Wednesday, November 13, episode. “It was really, really hard in the end to say goodbye to you because in any other situation, I would have been with you because we would have had more time.”
She continued, “There was a time element in this that I had to make a decision and I had just gotten farther along, my heart belonged to somebody else already. It was absooutely nothing you did. You are an amazing man.”
Joan added that she has “missed” Guy, noting that it’s been “hard to be away from [him]” and that she hopes to go on double-dates in the future.
Before the final rose ceremony — and after opting not to introduce the emergency room doctor to her family — Joan sent Guy packing. Guy was blindsided by her decision to break up their relationship.
“I felt so good today,” he told Joan during the breakup. “I fell in love with you. I was ready to let it all out. … This is not what I was expecting at all.” Guy added that he was gearing up to get down on one knee and propose.
After saying goodbye to Guy, Joan went on to accept a proposal from Chock Chapple. While Chock, 61, emerged as an early front-runner, Guy and Joan’s connection appeared to flourish throughout the season.
“You’re very handsome,” Joan said while Guy walked toward her during the premiere. Guy, for his part, said during a confessional that he thought the interaction went “well.”
“She was looking right at me and had a smile on her face the whole time, which made me smile,” he said. “I started getting the butterflies in my stomach.”
After meeting his family in Lake Tahoe for his hometown date, Guy admitted to Joan that he had “fallen” for her “big time.” While in the islands of Tahiti for the fantasy suites, the pair enjoyed a snorkeling date and Joan admitted that her feelings had grown for Guy.
“I am surprised at how easy it was and how much we progressed today,” Joan said in a confessional at the time. “This was just a smolder that has been happening for a while and he’s pretty incredible. He has opened up and been so fully in now. It’s making me feel the same way. He’s certainly as strong as other connections I have now.”
During the evening portion of their fantasy suite date, Guy admitted he was initially “very hesitant” that the journey would work for him. But now, he shared that he’s “more than hopeful.”
“I know we’re both looking for the same thing,” Guy said during a confessional. “And I do believe that I’m the right person.”
