Gigi Hadid spoke out on Instagram on Tuesday after being arrested in the Cayman Islands for marijuana possession.
Following the July 10 arrest, which occurred amid a girls’ trip, the 28-year-old model took to her Instagram page, where she gave her fans and followers a look inside her tropical getaway as new details regarding her arrest were confirmed.
According to Cayman Marl Road, Gigi and friend Leah McCarthy were taken into custody at the Owen Roberts International Airport on “suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja” and taken to the Prisoner Detention Center.
Regarding the arrest, a spokesperson for Cayman Islands’ Customs & Border Control confirmed to NBC News that after Gigi arrived on the island on a private jet, her bags were searched and she was found to be in possession of “a small amount of marijuana.”
Before being released on bail, the ladies pleaded guilty and were fined $1,000 each after being formally charged for their crimes.
“Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license,” Gigi’s rep told E! News after the release. “It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
As for her social media statement, Gigi didn’t directly mention her arrest, but she seemed to allude to it.
“All’s well that ends well,” she wrote in the caption of her July 18 post, which featured several video clips and photos of her and her friends, including Alana O’Herlihy.
Gigi, who appeared alongside mom Yolanda Hadid on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, shares two-year-old daughter Kai with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik, 30. However, the couple split shortly after welcoming the child, and in October 2021, he was accused of striking her mother.
It was then alleged, via New York Post, that Zayn’s use of marijuana may have led to the incident, claiming he was known to become “aggressive” and “paranoid” when on the drug.
As Gigi put an end to her legal drama in the Cayman Islands, Zayn was featured on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where he addressed the charges he sustained as a result of his alleged encounter with Yolanda.
“I knew what the situation was. I knew that happened, and the people involved knew what happened too,” he said, via Us Weekly. “I believe you could respect that I just didn’t want to bring attention to anything, I just wasn’t trying to get into a negative back and forth with her [or] any sort of narrative online where my daughter was going to look back and read that.”
