The 27-year-old defender was with the Rangers organization since 2021 was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on trade deadline day has been missed by many Rangers fans and abundance around the team.
Lindgren set to have many teams calling for his signature
Many NHL teams have received new money with the rise in the salary cap which is set to be at $92 million. Many jeans have expiring deals which has give them an abundance of salary cap room which is music to ears like Lindgren.
This marks his first opportunity as an unrestricted free agent. If he wants to stay in Colorado,he may need to consider accepting a salary cut. On the other hand, the Columbus Blue Jackets have plenty of salary cap space, and if Ivan Provorov were to leave the Jackets, they would need a backfill. Provorov is an unrestricted free agent just like Lindgren. The Jackets have expressed interest in negotiating with Provorov, since he is an excellent defenseman. Meanwhile, the search for Lindgren's next team deepens. - Hannah Eng
Other teams that are currently looking to upgrade their defence are the biggest golden Knights, Philadelphia Flyers and the Ottawa Senators all who have millions of dollars if not 10s of millions of dollars worth of cap space to work with.
One team to watch for would be the Nashville Predators who had taken big swings in last year's free agency but did not see the results they were looking for.
Adding Lindgren to the Predators lineup who have $20 million in cap space themselves would certainly help them defensively and give their blue line a new look.
Rangers unlikely to look at Lindgren to return
General manager Chris Drury is unlikely to look at Lindgren now that he has moved him away from the team.
The Rangers are looking at different options in the league whether it's through free agency or trade to make the roster more competitive, quicker and in need of an overhaul.
Other Ranger defenseman maybe on the move including K'Andre Miller who has been swirling in rumors for the past several weeks as he is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.
This coming off season is going to be fascinating for the Rangers and Lindgren where both parties are looking for different outcomes in their future.
