Prior to the 2024-25 season Blake Wheeler made the decision to not sign another contract and decide to hang up the skates, as the 38-year old was no longer excited to deal with the emotional ups and downs an NHL season. With the way Rangers played this past season, it's safe to say he made the right choice.
Here's what Wheeler at to say:
"My body, can I still go play a hockey game? Hell, yeah. I can still play," Wheeler said. "it's just the emotional, get up 82 times - I don't want to do that. There's only so much gas in the tank for that."

Along with that, in the 2023 season Blake Wheeler suffered a leg injury that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the regular season and the majority of the playoffs but he made return for game 4 in the Eastern Conference finals.

"I think I'm ready to see that Toronto power play get mixed up."

Now that the series is tied at 2-2, it's safe to say that Wheeler might be right as the Leafs had a 2-0 lead on the Panthers before heading to Florida, so some changes might be needed.
