Experience the Spectacular Winter Wonderland in Patricia Altschul's Enchanting Charleston Backyard - lulu

Patricia Altschul experienced some snowing down south earlier this month when her iconic Charleston house got a dusting. The Southern Charm matriarch lives in such a beautiful house, but it was even prettier when Charleston experienced a rare snowfall in mid-January.

Whitney Sudler-Smith's mom took to Instagram on Wednesday, Jan. 22, where she posted a video, overlooking her backyard, taken from the upper veranda of her house. In the video, Patricia's stunning yard, hedges, palm trees, and pool area can be seen covered in a light dusting of snow. She was also able to capture the road and cars outside the grounds, fully frozen over with it.

Patricia narrated what was going on in the video as she panned over the expansive backyard. "Here in Charleston, South Carolina, palm trees sound frozen, and you can see the roads look icy," she said. "But it's not bad!"

She then took to the caption of the post, where she continued to explain what was going on. "So woke up to a snowfall in Charleston, South Carolina," she wrote. "With ice falling off the trees and no cars on the road."

Patricia's backyard, however, doesn't always look like a beautiful winter wonderland. When Whitney gave BravoTV a tour of the beautiful, historic home, as seen in the video above, he also showed off the gorgeous outdoor area, which can be viewed from the home's upper patio and is surrounded by columns.

"You can see why I love to hang out here," he explained in the video. "You can feel like you're in a Greek temple."

Whitney then went on to walk through the gardens and explain how they came to be. "These are formal boxwood gardens," he said. "Originally planted in 1853, so we still have the same style of design."

The backyard also has a pool, which according to Whitney is rare for Charleston. "It's hard to build pools in Charleston these days because they have to be grandfathered in," he said. "This was built in the '80s, so we're lucky we have a house with a pool, but not many houses in Charleston have pools because they don't allow them."
