The signing of former second-round receiver Terrace Marshall to the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night may not be a big deal to regular fans around the league.
After all, despite his work with LSU in college, the 24-year-old has struggled to find consistency in the NFL with both the Carolina Panthers and last season with the Las Vegas Raiders.
In four seasons, Marshall has recorded just 67 combined catches for over 800 yards, and a single touchdown.
After being released in training camp by Carolina during training camp, the last year has been a stressful time for Marshall. And it even had him testing his faith at one point during the year.
"It definitely has been tested," Marshall said of his devout faith. "With that testing, it helps you grow and become stronger in all aspects. It just helped me be more patient and just rely on God more so than man, more so than myself. He reminds you every day that He is in control of everything. My thing every day is to surrender to Him and let Him lead the way.
"I came into this offseason with a pretty clear head. I was pretty much optimistic. My faith grew in the last year, so I came into this offseason just grinding and waited patiently. That call finally came, so I'm just blessed to be here."
Philadelphia is giving Marshall another chance to produce at a high level this season. And if he can produce anything close to what he did in college, an offense with him in the middle of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith may just be even better than last year's unit that won the Super Bowl.
