Eagles rocked by injury scare to $84M Pro Bowler Landon Dickerson as fans fear worst after star lineman is carted off practice field unable to put weight on leg - suong

There are a few players on the roster for the Philadelphia Eagles the team absolutely needs to keep healthy for the regular season. Even if it means shutting them down for the rest of the preseason over injury concerns.

Landon Dickerson might be one of them.

The Eagles got sideswiped with an injury scare on August 10 when Dickerson, a 3-time Pro Bowl offensive guard, went down at practice.

“Eagles three-time Pro-Bowl guard Landon Dickerson was carted off the practice field Sunday night with a leg injury, unable to put any weight on it,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account. 

Dickerson has been one of the NFL’s dominant offensive lineman the last 3 seasons as the Eagles have made it to 2 Super Bowls and winning it all after last season, when running back Saquon Barkley became just the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season.

He’s also one of the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL after he signed a 4-year, $84 million contract extension in March 2024.

College Transfer Propelled Dickerson Into NFL

Dickerson, 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, played his first 3 college seasons at Florida State before transferring to Alabama, where he was a 2-time All-SEC pick.

Injuries forced Dickerson to switch positions to center in 2019, where he won the Rimington Trophy as the nation’s top center in 2020. He also was named All-American and helped lead the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff National Championship.

The Eagles selected Dickerson in the second round (No. 37 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft and he was a plug and play starter. He played in 13 out 14 games as a rookie and started all but 2 games the last 3 seasons, including 3 consecutive Pro Bowl nods.

Dickerson is the elite of the elite in the NFL. According to Pro Football Focus, his 79.2 overall grade in 2024 put him 13th out of 136 eligible players at his position.

Outpouring of Supper for Injured Pro Bowler

In what should be a surprise to no one, it was pretty evident within hours of the news of Dickerson’s injury breaking that Eagles fans understood exactly what they would be missing if he was out for any extended period of time.

There was already Zapruder-esque practice footage trying to disseminate Dickerson’s injury shortly after it occurred.

“(Dickerson) is loaded heavily on his right foot/ankle while it’s rapidly going from plantarflexion into dorsiflexion which loads the calf/achilles,” Fantasy Injury Team’s Dr. Tom Christ wrote on his official X account. “However I also clearly see him step on someone else’s foot which may have caused his ankle to roll which could have protected the Achilles but caused an ankle injury Hard to tell. Hope he’s okay.”

“Manifesting a Landon Dickerson minor knee injury announcement tomorrow that confirms he will play week 1,” X user Vinny Talarico wrote on August 10. 

“I’m hoping he simply rolled his right ankle versus this being an Achilles injury,” Dr. Jeff Mueller wrote on his official X account. “Hard to tell and a lot of squinting. He didn’t seem to want to step through his right ankle as he was helped off the field.”

Former first round pick Kenyon Green, who is also injured, is currently listed as Dickerson’s backup on the depth chart.
